The plan for a mega Chinese embassy in the heart of London raises concerns in the United Kingdom.

China’s intention to erect a «mega-embassy» in central London represents a challenge for the British Government, which will need to make a decision in 2026 on a project that raises concerns about its implications for national security. If realised, this fortress of 20,000 square metres, located in the former building of the Royal Mint, would become China’s largest embassy in Europe. Since China acquired the complex for £255 million in May 2018, the plans have not been approved. The deadline for the final decision is scheduled for 20 January.
