The Government of Israel has decided to revoke the operating licences of several non-governmental organisations working in Gaza, including Médecins Sans Frontières, arguing that some of their employees participated in terrorist activities. The Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism announced the imposition of a ban, a measure that results from a regulation that has faced criticism from NGOs, as Israel required them to register information about their staff. The Ministry stated that 15% of the organisations under the ban did not provide the Israeli authorities with information regarding their personnel. Moreover, it is pointed out that MSF has affiliated individuals linked to Palestinian Islamist groups such as Islamic Jihad and Hamas. In March 2025, Israel implemented a new system for registering international NGOs, which generated criticism from the UN. This organisation stated that the system was based on imprecise and arbitrary criteria, which humanitarian organisations could not meet without violating international legal obligations or compromising humanitarian principles.
Israel will halt the activities of several NGOs operating in Gaza in January, including MSF.
