Miami (USA) (EFE).- This Monday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, commenced a meeting in Florida focused on the proposal to disarm Hamas as a means to advance to the second phase of the peace plan and cessation of hostilities in Gaza, amid a backdrop of security tensions in the region. Trump stated in a joint press conference that disarmament is necessary, mentioning that «we must disarm Hamas.» He also praised Netanyahu’s work and emphasised that one of the topics to be discussed is the disarmament of Hamas. It is expected that during the meeting at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, both will discuss the impediments that have stalled the start of this second phase, which has yet to begin due to disagreements. Among these are the disarmament of the Islamist group, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the creation of a provisional governance model for the Palestinian territory following the conflict.
Trump and Netanyahu bet on the disarmament of Hamas to unlock the second phase of the peace plan.
