Huesca (EFE).- This Monday, three skiers, two men and a woman, lost their lives and another woman was injured after being caught by an avalanche while practising mountain skiing on the western slope of Pico Tablato, in the Balneario de Panticosa area, in the Pyrenees of Huesca. Two other climbers who were with them were not harmed. One of the uninjured climbers alerted around 1:00 p.m., which led to a team of specialists from the Guardia Civil being mobilised via a medical helicopter to assist those affected. The victims died due to the ice impacts they sustained during the drag, as only one of them was partially buried. According to the Government delegate in Aragón, Fernando Beltrán, the breakage of an ice slab at approximately 2,200 metres altitude caused the avalanche that claimed the lives of the three skiers. Sources from the Guardia Civil have confirmed to EFE that one of the deceased is Jorge García Dihinx, a doctor from Zaragoza who worked at the San Jorge Hospital in Huesca. He was an active mountaineer on social media and usually engaged in these activities alongside his partner.
