María Corina Machado, opposition leader, urged Venezuelans to remain alert until a «transition» is achieved in Venezuela. Furthermore, she asserted that Edmundo González Urrutia «must assume power» following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro by the United States. In a statement, Machado called on Venezuelans in the country to be «prepared to activate» something that she will reveal «very soon» through her official channels. «The time has come for the sovereignty of the people and national sovereignty to guide our country.» «We will establish order, free political prisoners, create a nation, and bring our children back home,» she assured. The opposition leader noted that the United States has «fulfilled its commitment to uphold the law» in light of Maduro’s «refusal» to «accept a negotiated solution.» «As of today, Nicolás Maduro faces international justice for the crimes committed against Venezuelans and citizens of many other nations,» she emphasised. Machado maintains that González Urrutia is the true winner of the presidential elections held on 28 July 2024 and rejects the outcome that declared Maduro the victor. «This is the moment of the citizens.»
