Washington. This Saturday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that the U.S. Armed Forces were ready to carry out a «second phase» of attacks against Venezuela, but the first offensive resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and the First Lady, Cilia Flores. «We were prepared, and this resulted in such strength that it was not necessary, but we were ready,» Trump commented in a telephone interview with Fox News. The president described the military assault that night, carried out with helicopters in Caracas and several surrounding states, as one of the moments of his second term, and emphasised that the operation, which resulted in the capture of Maduro and Flores, was executed with precision. Trump has claimed that Maduro and Flores were transported by helicopter to the military ship USS Iwo Jima, which has been in the Caribbean since the summer, and that from there they will be taken to a federal court in New York, where the Venezuelan president faces four charges, including conspiracy for narcoterrorism.
