The EU calls for «moderation» in the crisis between Venezuela and the US.

The head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, urged for moderation following the bombing carried out by the United States in Caracas, after conversing with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. The European Union is observing what is happening in Venezuela and is calling for moderation. Kallas reiterated that the EU has stated that Maduro lacks legitimacy and has supported a peaceful transition. She emphasised that it is crucial to uphold the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter and asserted that the protection of EU citizens in the country is a priority. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, expressed support for the Venezuelan people and reiterated a call for a peaceful and democratic transition. The President of the European Council, António Costa, expressed concern about the situation in Venezuela and conveyed confidence in Kallas’s efforts and those of the member states to ensure the safety of European citizens in that nation. President Donald Trump declared that the United States had conducted an attack on Venezuela and claimed to have apprehended the Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, along with his wife. Trump confirmed the attack following reports of explosions and the movement of military aircraft in Caracas and other areas of the country. Rubio stated that Maduro would face legal proceedings in the United States and that, following the capture of the Venezuelan leader, no further military interventions in the country are anticipated.
