The Venezuelan government requests an emergency meeting with the UN following attacks from the US, and the Venezuelan prosecutor denounces the «kidnapping» of Maduro.

Caracas (EFE).- This Saturday, the Government of Venezuela requested a meeting of the UN Security Council following the bombings carried out by the United States in various areas of the country, including Caracas. The Venezuelan Attorney General has blamed the US for any eventuality related to Maduro and has denounced his «kidnapping.» Through a letter sent to the President of the Security Council, the ambassador of Somalia, Abukar Dahir Osman, requested that Caracas convene a meeting to address the «acts of aggression» by the United States towards Venezuela. This letter was also presented to the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres. Venezuela also asked the Council to «reject the aggression» of the United States towards its people and Government, calling for the «end of armed attacks» and for necessary actions to be taken to hold the US Administration «accountable for the crimes of aggression» committed on Venezuelan territory. Venezuela’s request follows the «armed attacks» carried out by «US military forces» in the early hours of this Saturday. The Government of Nicolás Maduro described these acts in a statement as «brutal, unjustified, and unilateral,» noting that they included the «bombing of civilian and military areas» in the city of Caracas and in the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira, all located in the north of the country. The statement adds that «moreover, US special forces are carrying out operations in different locations across the country using helicopters and aircraft.» Venezuela emphasised that this aggression «clearly transgresses» the UN Charter, which stipulates that «members of the Organisation must refrain, in their international relations, from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any nation.»
