Maduro declares a state of external commotion in Venezuela following «military aggression» from the USA.

Nicolás Maduro, President of Venezuela, has announced a state of external commotion in the country after accusing the administration of the United States of carrying out a «military aggression» in Caracas and the neighbouring states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira. The Government communicated that the president has signed a decree establishing the state of external commotion, with the aim of safeguarding the rights of the citizens and ensuring the functioning of republican institutions. There were sounds of detonations and explosions in Caracas, although no details have been provided. This occurs in the context of «threats» from the government of Donald Trump due to military deployment in the Caribbean. Reports of explosions have been shared from various areas of the capital, as well as from the country’s main military fort, Fuerte Tiuna, and the La Carlota military base. Witnesses reported an explosion in a mountain facing the military complex, causing power outages and sounds of helicopters and gunfire. Civilians living in residences within Fuerte Tiuna began to leave the complex. Explosions have been heard in areas such as El Valle, los Próceres, La Pastora, 23 de Enero, and La Carlota, as well as in La Guaira, Higuerote, and Maracay. Witnesses indicated that the explosions were felt near the port of La Guaira, causing tremors in nearby buildings.
