The workload in the courts does not appear to be decreasing in 2026, with trials scheduled such as the Kitchen case and others involving the brother of the President of the Government and his former collaborator, José Luis Ábalos, while confirmation of the date for other cases, such as that of Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s partner, is awaited. The year begins with a series of investigations that need clarification: that of the former number 3 of PSOE, Santos Cerdán; that of the former party member, Leire Díez; the case against the leaders of the airline Plus Ultra; the investigation involving former officials of the Diputación de Almería; and the inquiries into cash payments by PSOE. This year could also reveal the future of the investigation into Begoña Gómez, the wife of the President of the Government, as judges adapt to the new organisational system of the Courts of Instance promoted by the Ministry of Justice. A Constitutional Court that is awaiting the renewal of a third of its judges, including the president, will address the future of former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont, who will find out if he can return to Spain should his appeal against the denial of amnesty be accepted. The former Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, who was disqualified for leaking confidential information about the partner of the President of the Community of Madrid, may also present his appeal to the court, although he must first exhaust all instances in the Supreme Court. Below is a map of the main judicial hearings scheduled for 2026.
A year full of trials: Ábalos, Pedro Sánchez’s brother, or the Kitchen case.
