The South Korean president begins a State visit to China focused on re-establishing ties and on Pyongyang.

The South Korean leader, Lee Jae-myung, began a four-day official visit to China, having been invited by President Xi Jinping. During this trip, he aims to strengthen relations and promote dialogue on the Korean Peninsula, in a context marked by missile launches from Pyongyang. According to the state broadcaster CCTV, Lee arrived in Beijing and plans to hold meetings and official dialogues with Chinese leaders during his visit, which will last until 7 January. This is the first visit to China by a South Korean president in six years.
