Caracas (EFE).- Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado expressed her gratitude to the President of the USA, Donald Trump, for his «firmness and determination in the enforcement of the law.» This occurred two days after the detention of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, amidst clashes in Caracas and three adjoining states. She also claimed that the South American nation will be «the main ally» of Washington. In a statement shared on social media, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate stated that «the freedom of Venezuela is just around the corner» and that «soon» its inhabitants, even those living abroad, will be able to «celebrate» in their homeland. The former MP mentioned in her message that the Venezuelan people «mobilised in 30 nations and 130 cities around the world to commemorate a significant advancement that signals the certainty and proximity of the transition» in the South American nation. «We will unite in shouts, prayers, and family hugs, as our children will come home,» Machado expressed, accompanying her message with a video of some of these demonstrations in different nations. She also highlighted that Venezuela «will become the main partner of the United States on issues of security, energy, democracy and human rights.»
