New York. This Monday, the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, arrived at the federal court in southern New York, in Manhattan, with his wife, Cilia Flores. This will be his first appearance before the judge, scheduled for 12:00 local time (17:00 GMT), after being detained on Saturday in Caracas and taken to the United States. Maduro and Flores were transferred from the Metropolitan federal prison in Brooklyn to an area on the outskirts of the city, where they boarded a helicopter that landed at a helipad near the courthouse. Afterwards, both were taken in a convoy of five vehicles, escorted by a police operation to the court. The police closed several streets nearby as part of the security operation. They were under the protection of agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
