The situation in Venezuela following the arrest of Nicolás Maduro by the United States has created a division in Spanish politics, with opposing positions among the parties. The Government and the PP have differences regarding whom to engage with in Venezuela. The Executive maintains that they should speak with Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, while the PP advocates for dialogue with the opposition represented by Edmundo González and María Corina Machado. The parties to the left of the PSOE, especially Podemos and the Government’s allies in Sumar, are more critical of the United States and the actions that Spain and Europe should implement in response to the Trump administration.
The future of Venezuela and the relationship with the USA, a new gap in Spanish politics.
