Sánchez opens the door for Spanish troops to participate in a peace mission in Ukraine.

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, indicated that there could be participation of Spanish military personnel in a peace mission in Ukraine. During a press conference in Paris, following his attendance at the Volunteers Coalition for Ukraine meeting, Sánchez announced that next Monday he will begin discussions with representatives of parliamentary groups to gather their opinions on how Spain can contribute to a future of peace in the country. He clarified that Spain’s foreign policy towards Ukraine has been one of support for its struggle for freedom, through economic and military assistance, as well as hosting Ukrainians. He highlighted the bilateral security pact signed between the two nations and the training of Ukrainian soldiers in Spain. In line with this, he emphasised that Spain will participate in the decisions made in the event that a ceasefire is established and the opportunity arises to secure peace in Ukraine. He considers that their contribution should encompass reconstruction and the strengthening of military capabilities.
