Valencia. This Friday, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the PP, stated that Carlos Mazón, former president of the Valencian Generalitat, told him that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, suggested that the management of the emergency should be carried out from Valencia, which would explain the lack of a national emergency declaration. Feijóo has responded for five hours, virtually from his office in Congress, to questions posed by the judge and the prosecutor of the case, as well as by the lawyers who have appeared in the case concerning the DANA (Drought and Atmospheric Phenomena). In his opinion, the way the floods that affected southern Valencia in October 2024 were handled was a case of national emergency that should have been addressed by the central government. For this reason, he argues that the Ministry of the Interior should have been responsible for managing that crisis, or alternatively, the vice-presidency held by Teresa Ribera, given that the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation and the State Meteorological Agency are under the supervision of the Ministry for Ecological Transition. When questioned again on this matter, he indicated that he is unaware of any agreement to not request a national emergency.
Feijóo asserts that Sánchez influenced the decision not to declare a national emergency.
