This Sunday, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the PP, stated that he will propose a modification of the waiver of immunity to prevent politicians from using it to evade justice. «History will not forgive Sanchez’s policies, and neither will my Government,» he declared during the closing of the 28th Interparliamentary Meeting of the PP in A Coruña. He emphasised that no politician has the right to use the waiver of immunity to evade justice or to «guarantee their impunity.» According to information from the PP, their goal is to modify legislation to protect the judiciary’s ability to investigate potential crimes by any Spanish citizen, regardless of whether they are the president of the Government. With this modification, Congress will be able to reject a waiver of immunity, but the case will not be definitively archived, meaning that when the person with immunity leaves their position, «the case will remain pending.»
