The Government of Venezuela announces new releases of political prisoners, but the figures do not match.

The Government of Venezuela and various NGOs announced new releases from different prisons in the country. The figures vary according to the source; official data indicates that 116 people have been benefited, while human rights organisations have reported between 40 and 53 political prisoners released. Several non-governmental organisations have requested an official list of the names of those released, as they have pointed out that among those released are political prisoners and common criminals. From @foropenal, we have confirmed releases that took place this morning in Venezuela. The organisation Foro Penal reported that over 40 releases have occurred. Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón accounted for a total of 53 releases out of the 116 announced by the Ministry of Penitentiary Services. The Ministry of State did not clarify whether this figure represents the total number of planned releases, after Jorge Rodríguez reported on the release of a significant number of individuals, without detailing how many. Following this announcement, a list of the names of those released was not made public.
