The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court is investigating a complaint against Julio Iglesias following accusations of sexual assault.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court has initiated a procedure to investigate a complaint lodged on 5 January against the singer Julio Iglesias, related to a case of harassment and sexual assault in 2021 towards two former employees in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. These are preliminary criminal investigations initiated by the Prosecutor’s Office before the publication of an investigative report conducted by eldiario.es and Univisión Noticias in the United States. The investigations are at an initial stage and aim to establish the scope of the complaint filed earlier this month and the National Court’s ability to probe these events. According to the Organic Law of the Judiciary, courts in Spain are authorised to investigate crimes that occurred outside the country, provided that the perpetrators are Spanish nationals or foreigners who have obtained Spanish nationality. This regulation stipulates that the National Court has jurisdiction over crimes committed outside the country when their prosecution should take place in Spanish courts.
