Beirut. Israeli tanks opened fire near a Spanish patrol that is part of the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, after having entered an area of Lebanese territory that is outside the positions they occupy, which constitutes a violation of the ceasefire between the two nations. UNIFIL peacekeepers observed two Merkava tanks moving from a position of the Israel Defense Forces within Lebanese territory, near Sarda, deeper into Lebanon. The peacekeepers requested that the tanks cease their activity through communication channels. UNIFIL verified that one of the tanks fired three projectiles, two of which struck 150 metres from the blue helmets. Additionally, it was reported that the patrol was monitored by a laser while withdrawing to a safer area. The report also mentioned that both Israeli vehicles left the area approximately one and a half hours later.
