This Thursday, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated that Greenland can count on the support of the European Union in political, economic, and financial terms in the face of threats from US President Donald Trump. She emphasised that Arctic security is a matter for the European community. During a press conference alongside the President of Cyprus, von der Leyen underscored that the issue of security in the Arctic should be addressed by NATO, although the EU will continue to collaborate on this matter with all its partners, mentioning the United States. Von der Leyen indicated that the European Commission has suggested increasing support for Greenland in its budget proposal for the period 2028-2034, which was presented before Trump began making threats regarding the territory. Furthermore, she highlighted that the EU maintains collaboration with its authorities. «For this reason, we will continue to work on security issues in the Arctic alongside our allies and partners, which include the United States,» she clarified.
