María Corina Machado arrives at the White House for a lunch with Donald Trump.

María Corina Machado, the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, appeared this Thursday at the White House for a lunch with United States President Donald Trump, shortly after Nicolás Maduro was detained by American forces. The lunch will take place at 12:30 PM Washington time in a private dining room of the White House and will be held behind closed doors, without the presence of media. Machado entered the presidential residence through a side entrance. The activist did not answer questions from journalists who were waiting for her upon arrival. This will be the first meeting between the two and occurs following the intervention of American forces that overthrew Maduro in an attack in Venezuela, which led to the capture and transfer of the Chavista leader and his wife, Cilia Flores, to New York to face drug trafficking charges.
