Russia denies having aggressive plans regarding Greenland.

Moscow (EFE) – The Russian ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, stated that Russia has no intentions regarding Greenland, which is currently being claimed by the United States. He affirmed in an interview with the Russian news agency TASS that Russia does not threaten its neighbouring countries in the Arctic, does not extort, and does not seek to seize their territories. He also mentioned the words of Denmark’s Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who denied that Russia or China pose a threat to Greenland. He noted that NATO countries, including Denmark, use the fear of a Russian or Chinese threat to justify the militarisation of the Arctic. It was considered that by involving NATO in the Arctic, Denmark encourages a confrontation that results in an increase in military tensions in the area. Russia’s Foreign Affairs representative, Maria Zakharova, stated that Russia is monitoring the situation related to Greenland and believes that differences should be resolved through negotiations based on international law. Recently, tensions related to Greenland have escalated due to US President Donald Trump’s assertions regarding the need for the island to be under American control.
