A Ugandan military helicopter forcibly takes the opposition leader Bobi Wine from his home.

This Friday, a helicopter from the Ugandan Army transported the singer and Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, according to his party, the National Unity Platform (NUP). A military helicopter landed at Bobi Wine’s residence and took him to an unknown location, as reported by the NUP on their account on the social media platform X, despite the internet blackout imposed by the country’s authorities since Tuesday. The party claimed that «the regime’s security agents present at President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert’s residence cut off the electricity supply and damaged the electric fence surrounding the property,» located in the Magere neighbourhood on the outskirts of Kampala. According to the NUP, «private security agents of President Bobi Wine were attacked despite not having committed any offence.» Wine’s detention occurred after the opposition leader expressed his concerns on X just hours earlier about how the military had surrounded his home following the Thursday elections, in which he was standing for the presidency and called a fraud. «Yesterday, after casting my vote, the military positioned themselves around my house to impose house arrest on me.» «My home remains surrounded; no one can enter or leave,» the politician stated.
