New York. This Monday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, avoided responding to whether he is considering the possibility of using force to acquire Greenland, shortly after sending a letter to the Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, in which he mentions that «he no longer feels obliged to think only of peace» after not receiving the Nobel Prize. «No comment,» he said during a phone interview with NBC News. The president justified his desire to annex the Danish territory, just days after threatening to impose a 10% tariff starting from 1st February on products coming from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland that are sent to the US due to their resistance to his projects. The tax will increase to 25% starting from 1st June 2026, and will be «required and payable until a complete agreement for the acquisition of Greenland is reached.» When asked if he would continue with his tariff plans if an agreement is not reached beforehand, Trump replied: «Yes, absolutely.»
