The members of the Sumar coalition are participating in an internal discussion to form a new alliance to the left of the PSOE in anticipation of the upcoming general elections, without the support of Yolanda Díaz’s political project. However, various sources have indicated that nothing has been finalised yet and acknowledge that persuading Podemos to join is a challenge. The leader of IU, Antonio Maíllo, expressed in his comments during the Federal Coordinator meeting of the party a sentiment that has been shared by nearly all members of the Sumar coalition. This instrument, designed and led by Yolanda Díaz for the 2023 general elections, has been and continues to be relevant in this legislature. However, it is necessary to establish a new coalition for the upcoming elections, adopting a more equitable relationship model and allowing the entry of new members.
The left is preparing a new electoral coalition without the umbrella of Sumar.
