The kings arrive at the site of the train accident in Adamuz (Córdoba).

Madrid, 20 January (EFE) – The monarchs have arrived at the area where two trains derailed in Adamuz, where they are being informed about the work of the emergency and security teams. At 12:30, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia arrived at the operations centre near the Iryo train that derailed, accompanied by the First Vice President, María Jesús Montero; the Minister of Transport, Oscar Puente; and the President of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, among other officials. Sources from the Royal House reported that Felipe VI and Letizia, who were in Athens for the funeral of Princess Irene of Greece, cancelled the scheduled event in Toledo, where they were to present the Gold Medals for Merit in Fine Arts. Afterwards, the royal family met with Spanish media in Athens before heading to the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Greek capital to participate in the funeral. It was Felipe VI who announced he would travel with Letizia to Adamuz. «As soon as we finish, we will return, and we will be attentive, and possibly organise some presence in the area.» I understand the anguish of the families and the number of people injured as a result of this accident. We are all concerned,» stated the head of state.
