The Prosecutor’s Office dismisses the complaint against Julio Iglesias due to lack of jurisdiction.

The Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court has decided to close the investigation initiated following the complaint from two former employees against singer Julio Iglesias for cases of harassment and sexual assault that occurred in 2021 in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, due to a lack of jurisdiction and competence of Spanish courts. The public prosecutor has issued a decree concluding that the necessary legal requirements for the Spanish justice system to investigate the complaint, which included crimes of human trafficking, sexual assault, injuries, and violations of labour rights, are not met. The Prosecutor’s Office points out that, according to the Organic Law of the Judiciary, certain conditions are required, such as the accused being Spanish, there being no ongoing proceedings in the place where the events occurred or in an international court, and a connection to Spain. However, the decree clarifies that in this case the victims are foreign, do not reside in Spain, the events are attributed to countries with full competence, and the accused – Julio Iglesias and two assistants – also do not reside in Spain and have different nationalities.
