The Venezuelan non-governmental organisation Foro Penal has reported that at least 80 new releases have occurred in the country in recent hours. This is part of the process of releases announced by the interim government’s President, Delcy Rodríguez, on 8 January. Alfredo Romero, the president director of Foro Penal, posted on X that at least 80 political prisoners have been released today, which is being confirmed across the country. There may be more releases forthcoming. In an interview, Gonzalo Himiob, the deputy director of Foro Penal, stated that releases have been taking place since early morning. He mentioned that they have confirmed more than 80 so far, but the number could be higher. Himiob expressed his happiness for the release of the volunteer lawyer from Foro Penal, Kenny Tejeda Jiménez, who had been detained since 2 August 2024.
