Ingrid shows its worst face in the north, with a red alert and waves exceeding 10 metres.

This Sunday, the impacts of Storm Ingrid are evident in the north, where four autonomous communities – Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, and the Basque Country – are under red alert due to the risk of coastal phenomena, with large waves and intense winds. In A Coruña, A Mariña de Lugo, Asturias, Cantabria, Guipúzcoa, and Bizkaia, the waves exceed 10 metres. The wind is blowing from the west at speeds between 62 and 74 kilometres per hour, potentially reaching between 75 and 88 kilometres per hour. The Emergency Service of the Principality of Asturias has sent an ES-Alert message to coastal municipalities: «Large waves are anticipated, please stay away from coastal areas and follow safety guidelines.» In Cantabria, the storm is generating winds that exceed 100 kilometres per hour, reaching peaks of 117 in San Vicente, 115 in Santander, and 101 in Torrelavega. In Castro Urdiales, 6.8 litres of rain have been recorded per square metre, while in Santander the figure is 4.2 litres. The bad weather has led to the towing of a cargo ship that broke away from the Raos dock in Santander; it is now under control and docked in a more sheltered area. A cruise ship in the port of Santander with 1,300 passengers plans to leave the city at midnight, provided that conditions allow. The State Meteorological Agency warns of the danger of approaching the coast, as the sea can cause damage to promenades and nearby areas.
