Pedro Sánchez endorses Puente’s management of train accidents, but PP and ERC call for his dismissal.

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has praised the work of the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, in managing the railway accidents in Adamuz and Gélida, despite calls for his resignation from the PP and ERC. This occurs on a day when the minister has defended information published by El Mundo, which indicates that the site of the Iryo train derailment was a connection point between new material and tracks not updated since 1989, contradicting Puente’s assertion that the entire track is new. This information has led the PP, represented by its Secretary General, Miguel Tellado, to demand his resignation, arguing that he has lied in his explanations about the accident and provided false data. The minister responded via a message on X, asserting that the news published is a hoax and emphasising that the rail where the Iryo train derailed is new.
