Feijóo criticises the «gift» of legal residency to anyone who arrives in Spain.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the PP, has expressed his disapproval of the Spanish Government’s plan for the regularisation of immigrants. He has stated that this implies granting legal residency to any individual currently in the country, a figure he has estimated at 850,000 people. The government has chosen to begin the process for the approval of a royal decree to regularise migrants. During a campaign event for the Aragonese elections on 8th February in Figueruelas, Feijóo described this plan as contrary to European regulations and to the legitimacy that the Congress should have for its approval. In his opinion, this proposal promotes a pull effect. According to his statistics, the 850,000 individuals in irregular situations in Spain are in addition to the two million people who have obtained nationality and have registered in the Spanish census thanks to the grandchildren’s law. He stated that allowing all this is a lack of responsibility.
