Ana Botín, chairwoman of Banco Santander, stated this Tuesday that in order to be a global bank, it is necessary to have a presence in the United States. She pointed out that in 2028, they will become the fourth most profitable bank among the 25 largest in that country. In a press conference, Botín indicated that the acquisition of Webster Bank provides them with the necessary scale to be competitive in the United States, where by 2028 Santander will position itself as the second most efficient bank among the 25 largest. She commented that, thanks to this transaction and the previous one in which they acquired the British bank TSB, Santander already has an adequate presence in all of its key markets. Botín also indicated that their goal is to become the most profitable bank in all markets and they expect to achieve this by 2028.
