Spain will implement a ban that prevents those under 16 from accessing social media. This raises the question: are there methods to verify the age of users who wish to access and create accounts on these platforms? This is the challenge to ensure safe access to digital spaces. The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced this decision as part of a series of initiatives to strengthen control over digital platforms. Spain joins other countries that have legislated in the same direction. However, the challenge lies in establishing a reliable system, as facial recognition, credit card numbers, or ID cards are not options due to the risks they pose for data protection. The Government is supporting its own tool, presented by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Function in July 2024: the mobile application Beta Digital Wallet, which is part of a pilot project by the European Commission.
