Washington. This Thursday, an attack was carried out against a vessel operated by drug trafficking groups in international waters of the Pacific, near Colombia, resulting in the death of two crew members during the operation, which is part of the mission «Southern Lance». The U.S. Southern Command reported the attack via a video shared on its social media and confirmed the deaths of two individuals whom they described as «narcoterrorists.» Since August 2025, at least 119 people have lost their lives in attacks targeting drug cargo ships, as part of an initiative known as Operation Southern Lance, aimed at reducing drug trafficking. The recent assault on a ship in the Pacific comes after the official visit of Colombian President Gustavo Petro to Washington, where he met with his counterpart, Donald Trump, following their disagreements. The arrival of U.S. military ships and aircraft in international waters began in the Caribbean and preceded the military intervention carried out by the U.S. on January 3.
