The transition from the first to the second phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, announced by the United States on 14 January, is uncertain for the future of this Palestinian territory due to instability in the region, the restrictions imposed by the committee responsible for the administration of Gaza, and the stagnation that could result from a possible disarmament of Hamas. The former Egyptian diplomat and professor at the American University in Cairo, Alaa El Hadidy, states that «politics, history, and international relations show us that intentions are one thing, while reality is something completely different.»
