Lisbon. Until noon this Sunday, the voter turnout in the second round of the presidential elections in Portugal reached 22.35%, a percentage higher than the 21.18% recorded at the same hour during the first round. This is evident from the information released by the Ministry of Internal Administration, which will update the data again at 17:00 local time. On this Sunday, polling stations in mainland Portugal and Madeira began receiving voters at 08:00 local time and will close at 19:00 local time. In the Azores, the polling stations will close an hour later. Preliminary results will start to be announced from 08:00 local time. In the first round, which took place on 18 January, the turnout reached 52.26%. More than eleven million Portuguese citizens are called to vote today to select the new president who will replace Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. This Sunday, 36,852 voters from certain localities will be unable to exercise their voting rights, as they have opted to postpone the elections for a week, until 15 February. This decision is due to the storms that have affected the country in the last two weeks. Furthermore, the decision has been made to delay voting in certain electoral assemblies.
The turnout was 22.35% by midday in the presidential elections in Portugal.
