Sánchez defends banning minors from social media and criticises Musk for his «threatening» responses.

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has emphasised the importance of establishing regulations on social media to counteract algorithms that propagate violent, pornographic, or hate content, and has condemned the reaction of X’s owner, Elon Musk, for his responses. «Insecurity is not caused by a 14-year-old foreign minor in the United States or Spain. The source of insecurity is those tycoons who think the world belongs to them and that they can act as they please,» he declared from New Delhi, in response to questions about Musk’s recent messages on X during a press conference. Musk has reiterated his opinion of Sánchez, calling him «dirty» and «a traitor to Spain.» He has also backed a comment from a user referring to the extraordinary regularisation of immigrants, suggesting that the President of the Government should be arrested: «Of course,» he wrote. Sánchez clarified that he did not have the opportunity to read the message but has not doubted that it was a response to his proposals for regulating social media. He also asserted his intention to continue with his plans and to form an alliance both within and outside the EU to address a problem that is impacting the mental health of children and adolescents. «If violent, pornographic, or hate content is found, and is disseminated by algorithms created for that purpose, someone will have to take responsibility for removing it,» he stated.
