Protesters are demonstrating against the labour reform in Argentina during a national strike day.

Buenos Aires (EFE).- On Thursday, people gathered in front of the Congress of Argentina to express their opposition to the labour reform project being discussed in the Chamber of Deputies, while a general strike in rejection of the proposal from the government of Javier Milei was also taking place. With the parliamentary chamber surrounded and guarded by security forces, members of left-wing social and political organisations, as well as various trade unions, shouted slogans against the reform which, if approved, will bring changes to labour relations in the country. The demonstration took place as discussions of the project began in the session of the Chamber of Deputies and during the general strike, the fourth organised by the unions since Milei took office as President of Argentina at the end of 2023. The General Confederation of Labour (CGT) and the Argentine Workers’ Central (CTA) called for a 24-hour strike. The CGT did not call for mobilisations, while the CTA is participating in the protest outside Congress.
