The general strike organised by the unions in opposition to the labour reform promoted by the government of Javier Milei has halted much of Argentina this Thursday, as numerous workers head towards Congress, where the project that will transform working conditions in the country will be debated. With a heavy security presence, employees are attempting to access Congress in Buenos Aires, on a day when trains, planes, the metro, and most bus routes are not operational. The General Confederation of Labour (CGT) is at the forefront of this protest action that began at midnight. Thirty-three unions and the Central Workers’ Union of Argentina (CTA) have joined the demonstration, while essential services, such as public healthcare, are also experiencing disruptions. The Argentine Air Lines Chamber (JURCA) reported the cancellation of over 400 flights, impacting more than 64,000 passengers and cargo clients. The Labour Secretariat urged train and bus employees not to take any direct action.
