María Dolores Gimeno, the first woman colonel of the Civil Guard: paving this way is a great responsibility.

Around 9,000 women are part of the Civil Guard, and of them, only one, María Dolores Gimeno, has achieved the rank of colonel. In a conversation, she expresses her happiness at being the first woman to hold this position, although she also acknowledges the responsibility that comes with being a pioneer. After 32 years of professional experience, Gimeno has added the colonel insignia to her uniform and believes that the decisions she makes in this new role could influence the future of other women. The colonel feels satisfied to be the first to hold this position and anticipates that other women will soon reach this professional level. It is important to remember that women joined the Civil Guard in 1988, but it was in 1993 when the first lieutenant, her colleague Cristina, entered the Officer Academy. Gimeno mentions that the Department of Human Rights, Equality and Diversity, established in 2018 by a director general and which she herself led, continues to strive to eliminate barriers that persist in many professions.
