The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has reiterated his commitment to the investiture pacts, highlighting the need to advance in the implementation of the Catalan Tax Agency to manage personal income tax (IRPF), a demand from ERC. During an intervention at a meeting of the Generalitat Technical Council, Illa committed to promoting agreements and parliamentary initiatives to make this possible, while ERC is hoping for a gesture from the socialists regarding the IRPF to negotiate the Catalan budgets for 2026. Illa’s statements come as ERC is awaiting a move from the socialists, which would allow negotiations on the budgets to begin. This follows the republicans discovering that the Ministry of Finance opposes the proposed law presented in the Lower House. This week, ERC has decided to withdraw its proposed law and negotiate modifications to the new funding model that encompass this transfer, although Junqueras requested that the PSOE back this option. ERC has been raising this demand for weeks and expressed disappointment with the Catalan president’s statements on this issue following his return to work.
