The Constitutional Court has decided not to accept the appeal presented by Noelia’s father, a 25-year-old woman from Barcelona who suffers from paraplegia, in which he attempted to halt his daughter’s euthanasia. The second chamber of the court made this decision unanimously in an extraordinary session, due to a lack of violations of a fundamental right that could be protected through amparo, according to reports from the TC. Noelia’s father, assisted by the law firm Abogados Cristianos, filed an amparo appeal with the Constitutional Court against the ruling of the Supreme Court that dismissed his appeal regarding his daughter’s assisted dying, authorised by the Commission of Guarantees and Evaluation of Catalonia on 18 July 2024. He argued that his right to effective judicial protection had been violated, as well as the right to life, human dignity, and autonomy. However, the Constitutional Court dismisses these arguments by not accepting his appeal.
