The leadership of Vox has announced that it has established a new framework for negotiations with the PP to reach an agreement on the regional governments of Extremadura and Aragón. Sources close to the leadership of Santiago Abascal’s party report that this is an effort from both sides to prevent the need for new elections in these communities, where the PP achieved victory but requires Vox’s support for María Guardiola in Extremadura and Jorge Azcón in Aragón to continue leading their respective governments. The leaders of both parties have shared their views in recent days and have decided to restart talks. In the upcoming meetings between the teams from the PP and Vox, representatives of Santiago Abascal will present a new negotiation scheme divided into two phases: the first focused on the government programme and the second on the positions, as announced by their general secretary, Ignacio Garriga, at a press conference. Garriga has instructed Vox’s negotiation team to continue to include their candidates for the Presidency of the Junta of Extremadura, Óscar Fernández, and for the Government of Aragón, Alejandro Nolasco, who will be accompanied by the party’s deputy general secretary, Montserrat Lluis. The second-in-command of Vox has indicated that Abascal’s party aims to begin overcoming the atmosphere of distrust that has characterised its discussions with the PP.
