Russia maintains its military capability in Ukraine after four years of war and raises the threat to Europe, according to the IISS.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies warned that Russia’s ability to maintain its conflict in Ukraine shows no signs of diminishing, while the threat to Europe intensifies. There are indications that Russia is not weakening in its fifth year of conflict, and the threat to the continent is increasing, stated Bastian Giegerich, director of the IISS. The use of cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and attack drones has increased pressure on Ukraine’s air defenses and demonstrates Russia’s ability to project military power over long distances. Systems such as the Geran-2 drone are capable of striking targets across the continent with a range of up to 2,000 kilometres. Giegerich emphasised the urgency for NATO to increase its investment in missile defence, drone neutralisation systems, and deep strike capabilities.
