A report from the intelligence services regarding the 23F, declassified this Wednesday, indicates that six individuals were aware of the events prior to that date or had organised operational support for the coup d’état, and subsequently attempted to conceal their involvement. Other members of the Special Missions Operational Group of the High Defence Information Centre expressed support for those involved in the uprising. In the end, only two members of that unit faced legal proceedings, and only one, Captain Vicente Gómez Iglesias, was sentenced to six years, receiving a pardon in 1984. Commander José Cortina was tried and found not guilty.
