The EU warns against «any action that could further escalate tensions» in Iran.

Brussels.- Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and António Costa, President of the European Council, have called to «avoid any action that could escalate tensions or weaken the global non-proliferation system» following the bombings in Iran by Israeli and American forces. Both European leaders consider it «crucial to ensure nuclear security and to avoid any measures that could escalate tensions or weaken the global non-proliferation system.» Von der Leyen and Costa stated that they will implement «all necessary actions to ensure that EU citizens in the area receive our full support» in collaboration with the EU Member States. The European Union has imposed «extensive sanctions in response to the actions of the Iranian regime and the Revolutionary Guard,» which has been added to the EU’s list of terrorist organisations. In addition, they have been promoting diplomatic efforts to address nuclear and missile programmes through a negotiated solution.
