Brussels (EFE).- This Sunday, the European Union warned that a war in the Middle East could have consequences and called for moderation, according to Kaja Kallas, the head of its foreign policy, following a meeting of foreign ministers. The European Union urged the prevention of an escalation that could have repercussions, emphasising the need to avoid interruptions of maritime routes, such as the Strait of Hormuz. The EU’s high representative for Foreign Affairs convened European ministers for an emergency videoconference following the attack by Israel and the United States. Iran has carried out military actions against several countries in the region. There is a call for moderation, the protection of civilians, and adherence to international law, including the principles of the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law. It was warned that the Middle East has much to lose from any conflict. Kallas, representing the Twenty-Seven, stated that Iran’s attacks and the infringement of the sovereignty of several countries in the region are unacceptable and called on Iran to refrain from carrying out military attacks. Kallas added that events in Iran should not lead to an escalation that jeopardises the Middle East, Europe, and other areas, and it is crucial to prevent the disruption of maritime routes, such as the Strait of Hormuz.
