The Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, has rejected claims that the military bases in Rota and Morón de la Frontera are being used by the United States for operations in Iran: «We will not allow the use of our bases for any activity that is not covered by the Treaty or that does not comply with the UN Charter.» In response to reports about the presence of US warships in Rota, the minister has reiterated that the jointly used military bases will not be used «for anything» not stipulated in the Treaty or the principles of the UN Charter. It is possible that there are warships in Rota, «although that does not imply that the base is being used for this operation.»
