Spain’s rejection of the use of bases and Trump’s threats opens a new crisis.

The head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez

Madrid. The Spanish Government’s refusal to support Israel and the United States’ attack on Iran, as well as to allow the use of the bases in Morón and Rota, has caused a crisis in relations between Spain and the US President, Donald Trump. He has threatened to «disrupt all trade» and impose an embargo on a country he considers «a terrible partner». The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, will offer an institutional statement from Moncloa early on Wednesday. However, sources from the Executive have responded to Trump’s threats, warning him that if he wishes to review the bilateral trade relationship, he must respect the autonomy of companies, international law, and the agreements between the EU and the US.

The Government assures that Spain has resources to mitigate effects, support sectors that could be harmed, and diversify supply chains. Furthermore, it reaffirms its commitment to free trade and economic cooperation. A few hours earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated that no request had been received from the US.
